Have you ever heard the story about Elvis? The legend that when he died there was pounds of waste found in his body. The story goes that he died of constipation, not a heart attack.

Disgusting, yes. True…most likely not.

True or not, this story is usually told to illustrate how common constipation is.

I know this to be true. If I am being asked for health advice…it usually stems around the inability to use the restroom.

Constipation is definitely one of those illness that an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Once you are already constipated, problems can begin to snowball.

For most people, you can narrow down the behavior(s) or food(s) that are causing you problems. I have some good information here about finding the root cause.

Here is a quick 1-2-3 punch that I believe can help you prevent constipation and help boost your overall health as well.

Number one: Drink AloeAloe Vera

I have previously written about aloe for indigestion, and now I am telling you it is good for constipation too? Yep!

According to Dr. Axe.com

the anthraquinones present in the latex create a potent laxative that increases intestinal water content, stimulates mucus secretion and increases intestinal peristalsis, which are contractions that break down food and mix the chyme.

Translation, aloe can help you poop, there I broke it down for you.

I have previously written about aloe. So if you need more info, check out this link.

Number 2: Take a magnesium supplement/Use magnesium to treat constipation

This is the only treatment that I am listing that can be used for both prevention and cure. I believe that magnesium works better than any other over the counter treatment and it is a mystery to me why it is not the gold standard for constipation. ( I have some ideas why, but that is a discussion for another day.)

There are already great resources on why you should take magnesium for your health. This is my favorite book, so you can read and learn about this unsung nutrient yourself.

I have never found a magnesium “gummy” but there are so many options on how to take it that you should not have any problem finding the right one for you.

I have written an another article on just the use of magnesium because it would take up too much space here.

Number 3: Crystallized Vitamin C

This is one of the most unique cures I have ever ran across. Vitamin C is a water soluble vitamin, which means it is not toxic when you take a dose higher than what you need.

Instead, your body will attempt to rid itself of the excess product. How will it do that…you guessed it, poop.

Here is how it works, first thing in the morning before you eat or drink anything else, you take a mixture of water and crystallized vitamin c. It needs to be a high dose in order to be effective.

This remedy is suggested for people who suffer from a chronically sluggish system and need extra help.
